When looking to develop members of your team that are underperforming, the key thing to remember is that all underperformers are not the same – people underperform for very different reasons.
By “unambitious” I mean the people in your team who deliver consistently and who you have no complaints about because you know they give you 100%, but are happy to stop there and to stay in their current position.
One of the things that can help you achieve success is becoming strongly “outcome focused” – being seen to deliver has great career impact.
The most overlooked group in your team are likely to be the people who perform incredibly well but don’t particularly want to advance their careers.
“High Potentials” are people who are delivering fantastic performance and are ready for the next stage in their job responsibilities.
